Sea Kayak - Whidbey Island to Port Townsend

A double cross of Admiralty Inlet from Fort Casey to Port Townsend, to Marrowstone, and back.

  • Sea Kayak IV
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 12.5 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 12 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 3 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 3.5 kts
  • Pace: 3.5kt paddling

Meet at the boat launch just east of the Keystone ferry terminal at 9:00am.  The 8:00am Mulkileteo to Clinton ferry will get you to the launch on time.

Priority is given to people on the waitlist for the Deception Pass paddle until registration opens.  After that, everyone may register.

The weather forecast for this coming weekend is sunny and warm.  Hopefully these conditions will last through Monday and we will have a pleasant paddle across Admiralty Inlet and back.  We'll cross to Fort Warden and check out the Marine Trail site there.  We will then meander along the shore to the Port Townsend water front for a lunch break near Better Living Through Coffee, which is near the Waterfront Pizza.  Next to Fort Casey where we will check out the water trails camp site there.  Paddle east to the lighthouse, enter the current, and cross back to Keystone.

Max winds for this trip of about 12kt sustained.  If the wind is stronger, we'll consider a different route, such as the west coast of Whidbey Island or a one way run through Admiralty Inlet with the wind.  No thick fog as well. If visibility is under 1/4 mile we will choose a route that follows the shoreline.

Bring your sail if you have one.  Benefit from a sail may be limited on this day, but a good day to practice.
