Sea Kayak - Skykomish River: Sultan to Monroe

Trip

Sea Kayak - Skykomish River: Sultan to Monroe

  • Sea Kayak III
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 10.0 nm
  • Elevation Gain: -36 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 5 kts

Lewis St launch in Monroe (the takeout).  From there we will arrange transport to Sultan launch & shuttle mechanics.  Meet by 8:30am, but do not unload boats.

After some far right then far left maneuvering early in the trip, we will then work on boat handling with current on the bow vs on stern.  Also, turning and bracing in cross-current.  Expect a variety of exercises to help cement "muscle memory" for working in moving water.

And its a nice trip through a generally quiet and varied waterway.

Repeating for emphasis that this trip depends greatly on river flow.  We are looking for 9K-13K on the Gold Bar river gauge.  A little lower *might* work with a small group of more advanced paddlers -- maybe.  If the flow is far out of range, we should have about a week's notice.  If its close, we should be able to make the decision about flow about 2-3 days out.

If you are an Intermediate SK student, feel free to contact trip leader before registration opens.
