P

October water temperatures will be cold, so dry suits are required for this trip.

Bring water, lunch and snacks.  Highly recommend bringing a hot drink or soup in thermos for lunch stop.  You may want shoes to wear during lunch stop, depending on how much optional island exploration you participate in.

If you have a tow belt or VFH radio, please bring it.

We'll launch from the boat ramp below the Rainbow Bridge in LaConner and paddle down the Swinomish Channel.

Our plan will be to squeak through the fish hole to the  south side of the jetty and follow the jetty out to the south shore of Goat Island, then follow the shore around to our lunch spot on the north shore.  If the fish hole is blocked by driftwood, we'll proceed along the north side of the jetty directly to the north shore.

After a leisurely lunch to explore the remains of Fort Whitman, we may take a side trip to visit Martha's Beach.  This will depend on tide and weather conditions.

Finally, we'll paddle back up the Swinomish Channel to return to our launch site by 4pm.

Total distance  ~8nm.
