Sea Kayak - Chuckanut Bay

Explore intertidal zone and sandstone formations during a low tide. Enjoy the amazing scenery. Priority to students enrolled in a BSK course. If space allows BSK grads or those granted equivalency can join after June 21, 2023.

Meet at Larrabee State Park Boat Launch at 8:00 am.  Discovery Pass required.  Plan on being geared up and ready to launch at 9:00 am.  Pit toilet on site.

Since this paddle is suitable for BSK students demonstration of self and assisted rescues are required for students.  We’ll also review strokes and any other BSK course subject upon request.

Dry suit is required.  Since we’ll be practicing rescues please ensure you’re wearing adequate layers and perhaps head covering.

Ensure that you have the Sea Kayak eight essentials and the ten essentials.  Bring plenty of water, lunch and snacks.

I will reschedule if high winds are forecast.

Students, any branch - feel free to sign up.  BSK grads and those granted equivalency can sign up after June 21.  I will check the roster to confirm that sign ups prior to June 21 are students and remove those who are not.

Required Equipment

These eight essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips.  All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.

  1. Floatation in both ends of the kayak
  2. U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  3. Paddle
  4. Spray skirt
  5. Bilge pump with floatation
  6. Self-rescue paddle float
  7. Waterproof whistle
  8. Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
