Naturalist Trip - Washington Park Arboretum

This is a photography outing to explore the winter gardens. Time will be spent photographing both at close scale and the larger surroundings. Pace will be casual. Naturalists interested in exploring the winter gardens also welcome (but keep in mind photography will be our larger focus)

  • Easy
  • Casual
  • Mileage: 2.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 60 ft

We will meet outside the UW Arboretum Graham Visitor Center at 9am.

Let's explore the winter gardens at the UW Arboretum!  https://botanicgardens.uw.edu/washington-park-arboretum/gardens/joseph-a-witt-winter-garden/  There is amazing texture, variety and even some color to explore, especially this year!

This is a photography oriented stroll where we will be taking multiple and prolonged stops to photograph all the winter gardens offer.  You may want lens options for close photos as well as the ability to capture a larger scale view.

All cameras are welcome but please have a working idea of your settings.   Leaders will be able to help with simple advice for photography techniques but not your specific camera. This is not a class, leaders will be photographing as well.  I expect we will spend about 3 hours exploring the winter gardens and possibly the immediate surrounding areas of the arboretum.  Upon arrival we will head directly to the winter gardens, and then can spend time observing other areas on the return.

Please note: this hike will be led at a casual pace with frequent stops.  You may need an extra layer to stay warm, depending on the weather.  Hike will be rescheduled in the case of heavy rain or weather that would interfere with getting photos
