  • Mileage: 4.7 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 500 ft

Meet shortly before 6pm at the Soest Garden fountain outside the Center for Urban Horticulture off NE 41st Street. Metro Bus Route #78 serves this location.  On street parking and likely free parking in the adjoining parking lot.

Early evening hikes in the city call for headlamps and urban variations on the 10 essentials.  No cotton, please, but reflective items add to our safety crossing city streets. Sunset is 8:23 pm, civil twilight a half hour later. Smaller umbrellas are OK, too.

Participants familiar with Seattle's history, architecture, urban horticulture or other insights to our route are welcome to help with the narration.  Pace will adjust to hikers' comfort and fitness level -- this is not a marathon but a reasonable level of fitness is assumed for about 4.7 miles with at least 273 steps up and 325 steps down.

The hike is the 14th of 25 planned hikes from Seattle Stairways Walks. The Center for Urban Horticulture and University of Washington main campus are a Seattle walker's dream. Check out the Seattle Stairways blog here: http://www.seattlestairwaywalks.com/.
