Day Hike - Third Burroughs Mountain

Day Hike - Third Burroughs Mountain

By mid-August, the trail to Third Burroughs should be snow-free and maybe we'll still be able to see some wildflowers around the Sunrise area. Excellent, sweeping, panoramic views along the entire route!

  • Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 9.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,900 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 7,827 ft
  • Pace: ~2 mph

Fairly early start from the Sunrise visitor center/parking lot at 8:30AM. We will hike at a steady pace with a few breaks along the way to snack, take pictures, and savor the views. We'll start by heading up the Sourdough Ridge trail and then taking the Burroughs Mountain trail up to 1st, 2nd, and finally 3rd Burroughs ("Burroughs Mountain"). We'll probably make it a loop trip by hiking back via the Sunrise Rim trail.

More details about carpooling to the park will be communicated in the 1-2 weeks before the hike.

Pack plenty of water for this hike, as there is no tree cover and few to no water sources.
