A Northwest Forest Pass is required to park at the Surprise Creek trailhead.

Surprise Lake mirrors a ring of green trees and white granite. Glacier Lake adds the cliffs of Surprise Mountain, whose summit is the supreme grandstand for viewing the glacial brilliance of Daniel and Hinman, forest deeps of Deception Creek, and peaks from Baring to Monte Cristo to Glacier to Cashmere.
