Day Hike - Ozette Triangle

Experience the magnificent beach at Sand Point and take in the spectacular view up and down the coast from atop the hill at the Point, on a nearly level day hike that is about half on a boardwalk. This is part of the June 12-13 Ozette Triangle Car Camp, involving day hiking to Sand Point on Saturday, camping Saturday night at the Lost Resort Campground and day hiking to Cape Alava on Sunday.

Meet at 11:30 AM at the Lost Resort Store, 20860 Hoko-Ozette Road, Clallam Bay, WA 98326.  It is reached from Port Angeles by heading east on US 101, turning right onto SR 112, signed to Neah Bay, right at the stop sign to stay on SR 112, left at the Hoko-Ozette Road and right into the Lost Resort Campground, near the end of the Hoko-Ozette Road.  Keep right where the road forks to reach the store.  There is a restroom there with a flush toilet.

At the Lost Resort Store, we will pay for the number of campsites that we need and drive through the campground to locate the ones that we want.  Reservations are not permitted and there are no campsite numbers.   There are 30 campsites on 10 acres that are mostly spacious.  They never fill up.  The fee for each campsite is $25 for up to four people and two cars.  Campsite fees will be split equitably.

After we set up camp, we will have a trail lunch and then drive to the nearby Ozette Trailhead parking lot, where each car must display a National Park Pass.  At the trailhead there area a water faucet providing clean water and men's and women's restrooms with flush toilets.  From there we will hike 6 miles RT to Sand Point, where we explore the beautiful beach and can take in the spectacular view point atop the hill at the Point, before returning to Ozette by the same route.  There are two outhouses at Sand Point.

Saturday evening we will have a camp dinner together, followed by a campfire with smores and lively conversation around the fire before retiring for the night.

This hike is part of the June 12-13 Ozette Triangle Car Camp, involving day hiking to Sand Point on Saturday, camping Saturday night at the Lost Resort Campground and day hiking to Cape Alava on Sunday.  Anyone registering for one of the day hikes must register for the other one and participate in the Saturday night encampment.   Compliance is monitored by requiring leader permission.  A complete description of this car camp is posted on the Tacoma Branch Events Calendar.
