Burroughs Mountain

Trip

Day Hike - First & Second Burroughs Mountain

We will start from White River Campground, hike up the WT to Sunrise, then out to first and second Burroughs. If time allows, we can visit 3B, then descend the trail to Glacier Basin and return to White River.

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 10.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,600 ft
  • Pace: About 2.0 mph, slightly less on the steep parts, more on the downhill

0800 at White River campground.

This is a counterclockwise loop, starting at White River campground. We will hike the Wonderland Trail up to Sunrise, then travel the Sunrise Rim trail out to first and second Burroughs. If time allows we can visit 3B.  We will descend via the trail between 2/3 Burroughs, which takes us down to the Glacier Basin trail and back to the campground.

My goals for this trip are as follows:

1. Be safe.

2. Have fun.

3. Complete the loop.

4. Make it out to 3Burroughs.

My expectations for trip participants are as follows:

1. Practice Leave No Trace principles.

2. Have the physical conditioning necessary for this trip. None of the uphill is severely steep, but due to limited daylight we will be moving at a faster pace than if it was the middle of summer.

3. Be respectful of all participants.

4. Be comfortable with and prepared for shoulder season hiking. There's a possibility of some snow and temps will be cooler, so extra gear will need to be carried.
