White River Campground/Glacier Basin trailhead at 0800.
Road to Sunrise will not have opened yet, so we will start from Sunrise. Note that the Timed Entry program for Sunrise does not start until July 4th. Expect snow. Microspikes, poles and snow travel experience required. Hopefully we will have a chance to explore the area without the usual summer crowds.
My goals for this trip are as follows:
1. Be safe.
2. Make it to 2nd Burroughs
3. Learn something
My expectations for trip participants are as follows:
1. Practice Leave No Trace principles.
2. Have the physical conditioning necessary for this trip. The Wonderland trail from White River to Sunrise rim is pretty gentle but consistent uphill. There is one narrow gully that if snow-covered will require careful navigation. The elevation gain is 2500-3000' but it will feel like more if we are hiking in snow a lot of the time.
3. Be respectful of all participants.
4. Have the necessary gear. Expect significant sun exposure even if overcast, so you will need sun protection, sunscreen, glacier glasses, etc.
