Cross-country Ski - Lake Wenatchee South Park Area

Leavenworth/Plain Nordic Ski tour: Day 2 Ski on the groomed trails in Lake Wenatchee South Park area and into Kahler Glen

  • N2 Nordic Advanced Basic Ski
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 12.0 mi

Meet at the Plain Hardware store at 9:00am.  We can carpool from there to the Lake Wenatchee South Snow-Park area, where we will begin the ski trip.  Parking at the trail requires a Snow Park Pass with Groomed trails sticker

From the South Lake Wenatchee Sno-park, we will plan to ski on the groomed trails around the lake and forest and on into the Kahler golf course for a total of approximately 20km.  Trail is  groomed with both skate lanes and single tracks.  Classic cross country skis are recommended for this trip.

Part of the trail is rated "easy" but some sections are rated "more difficult".  There will be  some hills that require herringbone and snowplow skills to navigate. This is not suitable for beginning cross-country skiers.

These trails will typically be groomed Thursday through Monday.

Snow conditions may necessitate alternate ski routes.

Additional Notes:  Due to the traveling distance, the ski trip is best done as an overnight.

Travel:  Driving distance from Seattle is 110 miles (a little over 2 hrs) traveling over Stevens Pass (Hwy 2), or 148 miles (about 2.5 hrs) traveling over Snoqualmie Pass (I-90) and Blewett Pass (Hwy 97).  It will be necessary to either have 4 wheel drive with good traction tires and/or carry chains during the winter time.  Carpooling is also an option and more information will be shared as we get closer to the trip time.

Lodging: Leader has a cabin in Plain that participants are welcome to stay in.   The cabin has 4 bedrooms and can sleep up to 10 people in 5 separate beds. There is a cozy fireplace, covered hot tub, tv and wifi.  Cost is 25$ per person/per night plus a share in the $130 cleaning fee payable directly to leader. We will coordinate meals.  Please email me if you wish to stay here with your bed preference and number of nights/ guests.  There are many other lodging options available as well, both in Plain (http://www.beavervalleylodge.com ) and in nearby Leavenworth http://leavenworth.org/lodging/
