  • Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 4.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 730 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 2,700 ft
  • Pace: 1.5mph avg moving speed
  • 8:45am, ready to snowshoe.  Meet under I-90 overpass on SR 906, this location is near the I-90/SR 906 Interchange and adjacent to Commonwealth Basin TH.  From there, it's a short walk to TH and put on snowshoes  at or near the TH.
  • I-90 Exit 52 eastbound is the closest to our meeting location.
  • In your travel time, be sure to account for traffic headed to Summit ski area and time to find parking in potentially crowded parking area.
  • Only park on the shoulders of SR 906. If you park in any Summit lot, you may be towed.
  • When walking from your vehicle to the meeting location, be vigilant for traffic.
  • Toilet: closest one is WSDOT Traveler's Rest, which is ~0.5 mile further south along SR 906. If you want to stop there before going to meeting location, you could take I-90 exit 53; then, turn right (north) toward Traveler's Rest. Afterward, drive north to find parking near our meeting location.
  • Route: we'll head north into Commonwealth Basin and use our navigation skills to find our way and the best snow. I would rather navigate through the forest to find fresh snow versus follow a trodden path. This means the trip may be more challenging. Whatever we do, safety-first is a priority. Participants must be comfortable with this approach and be willing to share in navigation.  Preference will be given to those with a current Wilderness Navigation badge (but this is not a requirement).
