  • Mileage: 17.6 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 675 ft
  • Pace: average speed between 1-1.5 mph

Meet at the Hoh River Visitors Center parking lot at 9am and plan to be ready to go at 9:15am sharp.

Our goal/focus for this trip is to take the first full day at a leisurely pace to hike the full 9.2miles out to the Campsite while enjoying the old growth forest.  The second day there will be multiple options for pairing up to hike up to the Meadows, or explore around camping area.   We will break camp on the third day around 9am and hike out at the same pace as we hiked in.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • The route starts and ends on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula.  Depending on where you are coming from, the drive to the trailhead could take 4 hours or longer and could involve a ferry trip.  Please take this into consideration when signing up, and planning to leave.  The 10am start time leaves the possibility of traveling to the trailhead the morning of the trip, though you may consider staying near the trailhead the night before.
  • We may need to carry bear canisters.  All of the camps we'll be staying at have bear wires, in the event that they are broken then we'll need to carry canisters.  Unfortunately we won't know the status of the bear wires until a few days before the trip, so we need to be prepared just in case.
  • Participants will be asked to kindly reimburse the leader $20 each for the cost  of the backcountry permits.
  • The trailhead is inside Olympic National Park.  You'll need to pay the entrance fee or have a National Park Pass or similar.

COVID CONSIDERATIONS

All participants will need to have  full COVID vax and booster and self-check for no COVID symptoms the day of the trip.  A negative at-home test may be required depending on the at time requirements from the Mountaineers.
