9:00am at the ONP Hoodsport Wilderness Information Center, 150 N Lake Cushman Road in Hoodsport (map).   From there,  we will caravan 30 minutes to the trailhead.  We will seek to carpool if Covid situation allows, so as to conserve parking spots up at Staircase.

Because the trailhead is inside Olympic NP, each car will need to pay the park entrance fee or use a National Park pass.

Come explore the Flapjack Lakes and the area above known as Gladys Divide on a 3 day backpack trip.

Day 1:  Starting along the more gentle North Fork Skokomish trail, we will then climb more steeply to the Lakes, locating the group campsite and our home for two nights.   Distance to camp 7 miles with 3500' gain.

Day 2: We will explore above camp, on a way trail to Gladys Divide and Mt Gladys, elevation 5561'.   Distance to and from camp is 4 miles with 1700' gain/ loss.  Additional time will be available for further explorations as desired.

Day 3: We will pack up camp and head down, hopefully taking the alternate route back on the opposite side of the River.

Sign up opens 4/1 for 2021 Seattle Basic Backpack course participants needing a multi-night backpack trip.

Sign up opens 6/1 for 2022 Seattle Basic Backpack course participants who will have completed their field trip backpack prior to this trip.

Sign up opens 7/1 for all others.

Please email leader a copy of your
fully vaccinated AND boosted card upon registration.  Depending on COVID rates at the time of our trip, an additional negative immediately pre-trip rapid test may be required.

Each participant will bring $17 (cash please) to reimburse the leader for the cost of our permit and group camp site. note about cancellation: The Olympic National Park requires the permit to be finalized a week (or so) before the trip. Anyone signed up for the trip at the cancellation date/time is committed to paying the $17 cost (simply because the leader would be stuck with the cost)

Lastly, please see the amount of gain to camp on day one, and work on your conditioning leading up to the trip, ideally hiking Mt Si or other similar destination a few times with progressively heavier daypacks.  This should NOT be your first backpack trip of the season!
