  • Mileage: 26.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,800 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 1,000 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2.0 mph

10:00am at the  Graves Creek trail head.

From Hoquiam, drive north on Hwy 101 for 35 miles, turn east onto South Shore Road. Drive for about 13.5 miles, then arrive at a junction at the Quinault River Bridge. Continue right, proceeding about six miles to the road's end and the trailhead

Covid-19   We will follow all Mountaineers protocol .  Bring a cloth face mask and hand sanitizers.  We will wear masks when within 6' of others.

The plan is to camp two nights at Pyrites Creek which is about a 9 mile hike. Please anticipate several stops for pictures. This is one of the most scenic river walks in the area,

On the off day we will day hike into the Enchanted valley which is a grassy area with scattered trees surrounded by high mountains. There should still be cascading waterfalls, and hopefully we will see some avalanches glissading down the mountain. For wildlife, you can expect to see bears, and maybe elk.

The Olympic National Park website is still indicating that there is a bear wire at Pyrites Creek, so we shouldn't need bear cans. I will confirm this as the trip gets closer.

The cost $17/person or an Olympic Wilderness Pass. The Olympic Wilderness Pass is $45 for a year, so if you plan to hike 6 nights or more in the Olympics the pass is a better deal.

This trip is leader permission required.  Use tab on the right sidebar to request permission. Please tell me a bit about your backpacking in the last year. Also, please tell me about what you have been up to during the winter to be in condition to join us on this early trek.
