Backpack - Baker River to Noisy Creek Camp

Out and back backpack trip aimed to students in the Seattle Basic Backpack course

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 11.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,100 ft
  • Pace: Moderate

10:00am at the junction of Hwy 20 and Baker Lake Road.  Note: leaders coming from points east on Hwy 20, so will not carpool from Seattle area.  We will combine cars as possible and continue to the north Baker Lake TH, driving 26 miles to the end of the road.  Vault toilets at the TH, NW Forest Pass required.

Backpack from the north side trailhead for Baker Lake to the Noisy Creek camp.  Camp should have a toilet and bear box, and hopefully great views to Baker and Shuksan if the clouds allow.  After arriving at camp and settling in, we may optionally choose to hike further down lake.  Note: leader has not done this trip before, but there are lots of reports available on WTA.  In the morning, we will hike up to visit the tree known as Big Doug, before packing up and heading back to the cars.

Overall, this backpack trip is on the easy side and is aimed at beginner backpackers.  We will all aim to share our respective skills, knowledge, and assistance.  Basically, an “all for one and one for all” attitude.  Depending on the weather forecast, destination may be changed to something on the east side of the Crest.
