Car camping the night before is strongly recommended, as well as ski goggles or other eye protection from blowing ash. Trip will be cancelled the day before if the forecast is not favorable.
You must have completed at least 2 scrambles and/or strenuous hikes both with over 3,500' gain this summer - no exceptions. This is a difficult and tedious trip that includes roughly 2,500' gain on loose volcanic boulders.
