Alpine Scramble - Mount Ruth (Mount Rainier)

Strenuous scramble with incredible views of Mount Rainier. Mentored trip for Emily Goren.

  • Strenuous 5, Technical 3
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 10.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,500 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 8,690 ft
  • Pace: Moderate

South Renton Park & Ride at 7:00 A.M.

Hopefully we will encounter snow and enjoy glissading if conditions are good.

Mount Ruth has a high elevation at ~8,700 ft and may involve a lot of uphill snow travel, making it very strenuous. We will go at a moderate pace (or slower) to accommodate keeping the group together and preserving stamina for a long day. Participants must have excellent conditioning with recent 4,000+ ft elevation gain trips carrying a scramble pack (or heavier).

Students are welcome, but this should not be your first snow scramble.

Timed reservations are not required for the Sunrise corridor yet. Those driving to the trailhead will need a National Park Pass.

This trip will depend on road access, which is expected to open June 7th weather permitting. If the road does not open on schedule, or weather is poor, the destination will change to either a non-snow scramble or conditioner on I-90.
