Meet at 9 AM Saturday at the kiosk at the Dungeness Spit trailhead, reached by driving west through Sequim on US 101, turning right on the Kitchen-Dick Road, signed to Dungeness Recreation Area, and left on Voice of America Road, signed to Dungeness Recreation Area.  The trailhead parking lot is at the end of the road.

This is part of a two-day car camp, involving hiking to the Dungeness Spit Lighthouse on Saturday and Sunrise Ridge on Hurricane Ridge on Sunday, camping Saturday night at Dungeness Campground.  Anyone registering for this hike must also register for Sunday's Sunrise Ridge hike and camp Saturday night at Dungeness Campground.  Leader permission is required to assure that this is done.  See the Tacoma Branch events calendar for a complete description of the car camp.

After meeting at the Dungeness Spit kiosk, we wiil  hike to the Dungeness Lighthouse.   Each car must display a National Park Pass or pay a small fee, which was $3 in 2018.  The Dungeness Spit hike was scheduled to take advantage of a favorable tide that will allow us to hike on firm sand both directions.  It usually takes about two hours each way for this hike.  There are restrooms at the campground, the trailhead parking lot and the lighthouse.  During the hike, bathroom breaks can be taken behind a log on the beach.  We will spend an hour at the lighthouse, allowing time to eat lunch at a picnic table, take a free guided tour of the lighthouse and explore historical exhibits along trails around the lighthouse.

After the hike, we'll set up camp at prereserved campsites at Dungeness Campground, have a camp dinner and smores around the campfire and admire the sunset from a nearby viewpoint.  Prepaid campsite fees will be shared equally by all participants.
