Thomas Johnson


Tom Johnson (1940-2020), a Washington state native and a career historian with federal intelligence agencies for more than a half-century, was a lifelong hiker, longtime A.T. club official, and Trail maintainer for 30 years. Out of college in 1964, he joined the Air Force and became a professional intelligence officer. He and his wife traveled the world, living in four different foreign countries. He spent nearly a decade researching for this book, up and down the Eastern Seaboard, conducting interviews and poring through professional and amateur archives.
