Day 1) Hike up to Flapjack Lakes to set up camp (7 miles and 3800 ft EG).   Optional out and back to Gladys Divide for views of surrounding peaks/ranges adding 3miles and 1200 ft EG.  Most people say Gladys Divide is the best part of hiking up this way.

Day 2) Pack it up, head up to check out black and white lakes, then back to TH via  B+W loop trail to trailhead via staircase rapids.  9 miles and 2000 ft EG (leader will be going on a scouting trip to check out B+W trail-if too sketchy or if lakes are dry and seem not worth it, we will retrace our steps to trailhead from flapjack lakes-which is slightly longer.  This would also make going up to B+W lake optional.

You will see river and rapids, alpine lakes, and gorgeous mountaintop views as well as hanging out and sweating with cool people! Endorphin alert!

There are bear wires at flapjack lakes-which means you can hold your food in any bag and hook it to the bear wire.  Most people use some kind of waterproof cinchable bag w a carabiner.

There is a backcountry toilet at flapjack for poop and TP.  Rangers don't want urine in this system as it overflows-so pee elsewhere and pack out TP/use kula cloth.

Permit fee is $8 pp-cash or venmo ok.

We do have permits!!!!

Leader Permission required.  Intro to backpacking students-email me with your commitment to train and why you want to go on this trip.   Need to have one backpacking trip and 3-10 mile+ hikes in 2025 before this trip. You will want to have the physical conditioning to enjoy this trip and to have your backpack and shoes figured out.

Trip opens to general members 4/28-leader permission-please email me with your recent backpacking experience and why you want to go on this trip.

This trip is rated strenuous for elevation gain and distance.  Please be realistic about your physical conditioning/commitment to train before signing up for this hike.  The best views and places are worth the effort!
