Preference to Tacoma Introduction to Backpacking students. Trip will open to all Mountaineers to register on April 30.

We will meet at the bus station at S 19th St. and S Mildred St. (Tacoma Community College) at 8:00 AM to make car pools for drive to Forks, WA.

A Long drive to the Bogacheil River trailhead in Olympic National Park. The Bogacheil river is the northern most rain forest hike on the western side of the Olympics.

We may stop along the way for gasoline and snacks? The trailhead is just south of Forks, WA. on Hwy 101. There may also likely be a stop on the way back.

Preference to Tacoma Introduction to Backpacking students. Trip will open to all Mountaineers to register on April 30.

Participants who sign up must also obtain an Olympic Natl Park Back country camping permit from Recreation.gov. $8.00 fee + $4.00 dollar processing fee ($12.00 total). NOTE: It was suggested by a Park ranger to wait until Aug. 1 to obtain a permit as there is not a lot of 'traffic' on this route.

Bear canister required.

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Bear canister
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • WAG (waste and garbage) bag required.
