Seattle Explorers & Jr. MAC Kayaking - Hope Island

This is an overnight sea kayaking trip to hope Island State Park (Mason County). We will launch from the Arcadia boat ramp, which is about a 2 mile paddle to the campground. We will also have the opportunity to paddle the waters around Hope Island and search for Oysters, clams, and crabs.

  • Sea Kayak II
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 5.0 nm

TBD

Please visit this page on Squaxin Island to learn more about the Squaxin Island Tribe, who have lived on these lands and waters for countless centuries. The tribe currently owns and manages Squaxin Island which is next to Hope Island as well as the Arcadia Boat Ramp where we will launch from.

Prerequisites:

You must attend the May 8 General Meeting as well as the day paddle at Concrete beach on June 1. If you cannot attend one of these events, still want to join the trip, and have paddling experience, please email zacharyj@mountaineers.org.

Important information:

Kayaks: We have access to 6 double sea kayaks from Outdoors for All (located in Magnuson Park). If you have your own kayak, you are encouraged to bring it. We will also rent boats from Kamilche Adventures, which is close to the launch point and owned by a Squaxin tribal elder. They have 14 single kayaks which will cost $110 each for the day and a half.

Parking: Discover Pass Required

Fishing/Harvesting Shellfish: If you plan to fish or harvest shellfish, both of which are very doable in this area, please obtain the proper license from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
