Sea Kayak Event - Seattle Waterfront

Seminar

Sea Kayak Event - Seattle Waterfront

(Registering for this requires you to send me additional info. Read Leader notes!) ---> Learn how our Puget Sound marine superhighway is managed by the U.S. Coast Guard from Seattle's waterfront. Tour the local Sector headquarters of VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) to see how they monitor marine traffic and related navigational concerns. Afterward, optionally have lunch with many of us near the stadiums, perhaps at Vinason Pho Kitchen - SODO.

  • Easy, Sea Kayak II/III
  • Casual

Please take public transportation or similar if possible (the last segment at least), so we minimize parking on the Coast Guard military base.

Arrive by 9:45am or earlier to assure parking and building entrance.

Anyone NOT at the front gate by 9:55am may not be allowed in.

Tour starts inside at 10am sharp - Thu July 11th

Here are pictures of the entrance our host Michael Bove provided:

He wrote this to me, regarding entrance:

  • Call or text me and I’ll meet you at the gate. Please carpool as much as possible because everyone must be escorted when on base.

Note: the technical address (1519 Alaskan Way S, Seattle, WA 98134) of the U.S. Coast Guard Sector appears to be a DIFFERENT BUILDING on the main Alaskan drag. Unless otherwise updated here, go to the building on S. Massachusetts Street about 1 block off Alaskan Way indicated by the Google Maps link above and the 'Start GPS Point' graphic further above.

After the tour, optionally join many of us for lunch, most likely at Vinason Pho Kitchen - SODO, a short walk away at:

1521 1st Ave S, Seattle, WA 98134

Please be interested in navigation before registering. This activity builds upon the talk our U.S. Coast Guard host (Michael Bove) provided last year via Zoom during this activity:  https://www.mountaineers.org/locations-lodges/kitsap-branch/committees/kitsap-sea-kayaking-committee/seminars-clinics/pre-trip-skills-practice-online-classroom

This slideshow from last year's talk should be reviewed before attending this activity:

  • You must also provide your Driver's License #; Driver's License State; Date of Birth; First and Last Name list on that same document.

NOTES:

  • After you register, send me this info via email (to AlanMarshallSeattle@gmail.com).After I fill out the form, I will delete the message from you. And later I will delete a copy of the form submitted after the activity is complete so there is no trace of Personally Identifiable Info lingering.
  • Sorry, but people who are registered and do NOT provide this info by Mon Jun 24th will be administratively de-registered.
  • I have to provide the complete list of attendees a minimum of a week before but I will be in a remote location the prior 2 weeks so I will be submitting the final list on Tue Jun 25th. Thx.
