CHS 2 Hike - Royal Basin

OLYMPIC CAMPOUT WEEKEND! - CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-3.0 mph). Visit stunning Royal Lake and then Royal Basin with commanding views of the surrounding area and mountains along the way.

We will depart at 7AM from the group campsite in Dungeness Spit State Park, the site of the CHS Olympics Campout.  It is about a 1 hour and 25 minute drive from the campground to the trailhead.  Those planning to meet at the trailhead should be there by 8:30AM.

A Northwest Forest pass or America the Beautiful pass are required for parking.

From the trailhead, we will take the Upper Dungeness Trail for about 1 mile, then we'll take a right on the Royal Basin trail.  After a further 6 miles we will reach the shores of Royal Lake.  We will take a short break at the lake before making our final push of less than 1 mile up to Royal Basin.  There we will take a longer break to eat lunch and enjoy the commanding views of the surrounding mountains and the blue tarns in the basin.  We will retrace our steps back to the trailhead.
