CHS 2 Hike

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Enchantments Traverse

CHS 2 GRADUATION HIKE! CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-3.0 mph)

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 18.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 5,080 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 7,850 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-3.0 mph

We have reserved a house in Leavenworth for the weekend as we will need to be at the trailhead by 5am.  Costs associated to stay in the house will average about $230 per person for a shared bedroom for both Friday and Saturday nights with the option to stay Sunday night as well (for an additional cost).   We expect to finish the hike around 8:30pm.

If you choose not to stay at the rental, we will need you to meet us at the house by 4am so we can carpool to the TH on time.  Carpooling is a requirement as this is a through hike and the drop-off and pick-up locations are 8 miles apart.

We have arranged for another CHS leader (Justin Bland) to drive us to and from the trailhead -- this means we can avoid dealing with parking at both the beginning and the end of the hike. This means we can get dropped off and get right on the trail.

We will also be cooking dinner on Saturday night -- Justin will help us have a hot meal ready when all of the hikers get done. We've found this to be the best overall option since we may be too tired/dirty to go out after the Enchantments through hike.

We anticipate starting the hike around 5AM. The goal is to get to Colchuck lake early so that we can start the Aasgard Pass climb before the heat of the day. We anticipate starting the Aasgard Pass climb around 9 AM and letting everyone go at their own pace. (It will take 1-2 hours to climb Aasgard Pass).

Once we finish climbing Aasgard Pass by ~11 AM we will hike through the core and eat lunch at one of the high lakes. Mid-afternoon we will hike down to snow lakes with the goal of making it back to our cars by dusk (~8 PM).
