Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Cascade Pass & Sahale Arm

CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-3.0 mph)

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 12.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,000 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-3.0 mph

Schedule:

Meeting Time: 9:00 am

Start hiking: No later than 9:15 am, after brief introductions

We’ll start on the Cascade Pass trail.  Up to Cascade Pass, the trail is mostly in the woods, with more than 30 switchbacks, with a mild incline.  Once we get up to Cascade Pass, there will be a privy, a junction, and a great view. From there, we’ll continue to climb up, mostly above the trees, up Sahale Arm.  The final push of this hike is a bit more “scrambly,” with rocks that are the sizes of baseballs and basketballs.  Trekking poles will be very handy in this portion.  We will turn around once we get to the first camp of the Sahale Base Camp which is just below the Sahale Glacier.
