Introduction to placing traditional gear in a single pitch crack climbing environment.

Please also note that some student slots in the single pitch course modules will be held for students taking all the modules in the Intermediate Climbing Package! Package students will be signing up Jan 3-Jan 15. Consideration of applications from those outside the Intermediate program will begin Jan 15th.

This course is designed to prepare students to learn the skills to lead climb single pitch traditional routes at crags. Students will be given time and education to safely and efficiently place gear and develop new climbing skills that will help them break into a new type of climbing.

Students must at a minimum be already leading sport routes (bolted routes) to be eligible for this course. To apply, click the "apply" button and submit a completed application form to the course leader.

  • one set of Camelots size .3 to a #3
  • full set of nuts
  • helmet
  • harness
  • rock shoes
  • 2 personal anchors
  • 6 24 inch alpine slings with 2 wire gate biners per sling
  • 3 locking biners
  • auto blocking belay device, ei petzle reverso, BD ATC Guide, mega jel
  • nut tool
  • 20 feet cordalette, 6M nylon, 5M tech cord or spectra
Optional:
  • smaller Camelots optional; BDC3's, or any other brand  
  • chalk bag
