Basic Field Trip #3 - Rock Evaluations, make-up session

6:30pm in the foyer, we will practice on the South wall till 9pm

Climbing, Belaying, & Rappelling, ... on the climbing walls.

Activities

  • Rappelling, safe rappel rigging, and connecting into an anchor.
  • Able to identify safe anchor rigging.
  • Belaying a second, belaying a leader, and belay tie-off.
  • Climb 3 or more top-rope routes on the south plaza climbing wall, 
  • Friction climbing.
  • Advanced rappelling; including difficult starts (sit-n-spin), no extension options, & alternate rappel method (3 locking carabiners).

Required Equipment

Equipment:     Be sure to bring all the gear listed below. Mark your equipment so that you will be able to identify it when it gets mixed in with other gear.

  • Helmet
  • Harness
  • Belay device
  • Belay gloves
  • 1 large, locking pear-shaped carabiner ("HMS" or "Pearabiner")
  • 2 locking and 6 non-locking carabiners
  • 3 60cm (single), and 2 120cm (double) sewn or tied runners; 2 sewn runners (120 cm and 60 cm)
  • (2) 2' Prussik Loop (aka Hero Loop). A 4' length of round accessory cord tied into a loop = a bit less than 2' length.
