Summer Camp - 3 Volcanoes Week - Olympia - 2020

Youth Program

Mountaineers Summer Camp - Olympia

3-Volcanoes Cabin Week! This week will include a week of exploring the great volcanoes in Washington. Monday will be spent playing and preparing for our 4 day/ 3 night overnight camp (Tuesday - Friday) at the Three-Volcanoes Cabin owned by Mountaineer member Dixie Havlak.

This exciting week of Camp is for campers ages 8-13 and includes 4 days/3 nights at the 3-volcanoes property, owned by youth leader Dixie Havlak. We will be tenting for the overnight, but with a lovely cabin in the middle of the property, we will have access to clean water, an indoor kitchen with a wood stove, and protection for any rain that may come.

Monday - We will spend the day getting to know each other with fun games and ice breakers, followed by planning and preparing for the week ahead.  We will  get dialed in on our camp skills, such as setting up tents, cooking with stoves, filtering water. We will also cover some wilderness first aid skills, and learn how to Leave No Trace while we’re in the wilderness. We’ll cap off the day with some fun games, and final prep for the trip.

Campers will arrive Tuesday morning with their overnight gear ready to go. After a quick snack we will be on our way to the 3-volcano cabin. Once camp is all set up we will have time for some skills workshops and adventuring before dinner. Our evening will be filled with campfire, stargazing, songs and more!

Wednesday will begin with a hearty breakfast and then we are off to Mt St Helen's for adventures. We will be hiking to Spirit Lake, as well as Windy Ridge, and will be on the hunt for salmon berries to bring home for dessert.

Thursday will be all about Mt. Adams as we go and explore the lava tubes and boulder fields near Takhlakh Lake. And if campers remember their swim wear, we will even have a chance to kayak and swim in the lake after a nice lunch.

Friday morning will be used for packing up, followed by our final mountain adventure at Mt Rainier. We will explore the south end of Rainier before we hop back into the car to head back to Olympia.  We will arrive back on Friday around 4:00 with time to share our stories with our families.
