BC Lecture #5: Intro to Rock Climbing - Mountaineers Tacoma Program Center

We will meet at the Tacoma Program Center at 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

This lecture focuses on rock climbing.  Topics will include: 

• Rock climbing techniques
• PBUS belay
• Small-group demonstrations:  leading/following on rock, extended rappel, carabiner brake rappel, rock protection.

Students, please read/review the following in Freedom of the Hills, 9th edition:

Ch. 9 Basic safety system

Ch. 10 belaying

Ch. 11 rappelling

Ch. 12 alpine rock climbing

Ch. 13 rock protection

Ch. 14 pg. 282-283 following on rock (cleaning the pitch, transferring equipment)
