Traverse the rugged and captivating West Peak Trail, where the terrain is steeper but the trail is rewarding, passing the ruins of the Green House. Pause at the Bullitt family's fireplace, remnants of their cottage. Descend along less travelled Phil's Creek Trail, where remnants such as cables, pipes, and spikes from the Old Tie Mill provide glimpses into the area's industrial past.

Success on this hike means everyone feels welcomed, has a fun day, and feels supported. Additionally, it includes enjoying the scenery, feeling welcome to advocate for yourself as needed, staying hydrated and nourished.

We'll stop for lunch at Debbie's View for a break.

Tricky spots: Navigating through a few short tricky, not to be missed, areas requires caution and taking our time. Small parts of our route (West Peak and Summit) have sections that feel a little wilder, with steeper slopes and rooty terrain where trekking poles are an excellent idea. These rugged areas have larger step-ups and downs. West Peak Trail is described by Harvey Manning as: 'This is my favorite way onto Squak. The forest is exceptional, with mostly virgin undergrowth...' Despite some steeper parts there, its particular mood draws me back over and over. If you're comfortable navigating roots and short, steep segments, these areas shouldn't pose too much difficulty.
