July Hikes: 3.75 to 6.5 miles, 500 to 1,750 feet gain - Mount Fremont Lookout, Berkeley Park & Skyscraper Mountain

This hike may count toward your monthly required GoHike course July hike. We will be hiking Berkeley leg of the trail.

  • Moderate, Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 7.7 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,700 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2 mph

We will take two vehicles to Sunrise. These vehicles have park reservations to enter Sunrise at a specific time. Reservations are needed to enter Sunrise this summer.

Berkeley Park is a flower-filled utopia where creeks chatter, pikas squeak, marmots lounge, and you can soak in all in just a few miles from the Sunrise Visitor Center.
The way to Berkeley Park now joins the Wonderland Trail briefly, passing along the rocky north side of Burroughs Mountain and descending for 1.3 miles before reaching another intersection. Here, the Wonderland continues to the left, but you'll proceed straight on, descending into a lush valley.
Where you begin descending is the top of Berkeley Park. The first section of the park is a lush green slope, where marmots sun on rocks, creeks tumble from higher sources, and wildflowers thrive.  Personal safety and group safety.  We stay together as a group.  If someone needs a party separation, another hiker waits nearby.  If there is a creek crossing, or intersection, we wait for everyone. If you have any health concerns/medication, please let us know and how we can support you. Please bring your 10 essentials.   Trekking poles recommended.
