April GoHike Urban Walk: 2.5 - 5 miles, 250 - 1,000 feet gain (optional) - Meadowdale Beach Park

This GoHike may count toward your April required hike/urban walk. Meadowdale Beach Park offers a good workout with a climb down to the beautiful shores of the Puget Sound and back up to the trailhead through a lush landscape. A 2.5 mile urban walk with 425 ft of elevation gain (mostly on the way back up) and a pace of 1.5-2.0 mph will help improve our stamina gradually.

This location is in Northwest Lynnwood, where we will meet in the parking lot by the trail head entrance by 5:30pm. Arriving early (5:15 ish) to sort out gear, use the restroom, etc. will help us be ready to gather and start by 5:30 pm.

This urban walk/hike is full of unique features along the journey down a lushly forested ravine alongside the babbling creek to its estuary as it flows into Puget Sound. Heading to the beach, breathe in the serene panorama of Brown’s Bay, Puget Sound, the islands, and the Olympic Mountains. Take some time to see seabirds and explore the shores to see crab shells, anemones, and other treasures.

The journey usually takes 1.5-2 hours. I always recommend planning for 3 hours, all considered. Weather and enjoyment levels considered, it may be closer to 2 or 3 hours, relatively. If we all want to spend more time at the beach, I fully support that. If there is a mixed preference, we will meet in the middle, so please bring your flexibility to go with the flow. I would expect to be back by 8/8:15 at the parking lot, which is close to last light, so I recommend bringing a headlamp for safety/vision.

Tide:

As we are visiting a beach area, it is a good idea to check out the tide tables on this and similar trips in your future. For our trip on April 22nd, the tide will be about 2/3 of the way coming in when we are at the beach. You can check the date for tide tables using a google search, Tide Times, or NOAA.

If you like photography, this is a great spot and good time of the evening to catch some good shots. We might see harbor seals, gulls, shore birds, crabs, anemones, and more. We will take time once we reach the beach to explore.

PS - if we get close to the date of the hike and 1-2 people are on the waitlist, I will let you in. If you think you can't make it, please update your registration status before the deadline so others can join who can make it.
