Winter Scramble - Pratt Mountain

Great conditions but limited views.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Shallow snow pack.  We stayed on the trail all the way to the ridge above Ollalie Lake (past the turn off to Pratt Lake) and did not use snow shoes until finally leaving the trail at about 4200’ elevation. We put on snow shoes just before leaving the trail.  The ridge was straight forward with the normal obstacles and about two feet of unconsolidated snow.  We got out our ice axes to traverse below (on the north side of the ridge) the large  boulder that blocks the ridge.

Overcast day with deteriorating weather, but overall pleasant and only a little mixed rain and snow.  8 hours round trip.  Some used micro spikes on the trail.  Snowshoes were needed once we left the trail.  Poles were helpful.  Fun group did a nice job of supporting each other.  Nice day!
