Winter Scramble - Anaconda Peak

A longer and harder scramble than we were expecting. Ran out of time before reaching the summit.

  • Road impassable/closed
  • We had hoped to drive partway up Forest Service road 4039, but that's impossible. The road has been decommissioned and trees have taken it over. Instead, we started at the Marten Creek trail head and took it for a mile before turning left, crossing the creek, and starting our scramble.  The crossing of Marten Creek was more challenging than we expected.

The scrambling overland was slower than anticipated, due to extensive brush and fallen trees. After 5 hours of scrambling we had only reached 3800 feet in elevation. With more than 1200 feet to go, we turned around, eager to avoid having to cross the creek in the dark.
