The hardest part of this trip is the drive up. The maps show a maze of logging roads and we were worried about navigating to the trail head. But the navigation was easier than we anticipated. The road was pretty badly rutted, but the Jeep did fine and the Subaru station wagons survived with just a few scrapes along the undersides. The trail west up the first ridge is easy and well marked. The viewpoint where the ridge meets the main ridge is spectacular; to the west you look down onto Snow Lake and up into the Enchantments. To the east you have the basalt desert of central Washington. The trail stops at this viewpoint. Turning left, one has an easy scramble south to the summit block of 6885. Donning helmets, one descends about 50 feet down a gully then ascends about 100 feet on good rock. The students really enjoyed scrambling up and down the summit block, trying numerous routes.
