Trip Report

Unicorn Peak/South Side

6/8/15: Sunny and hot forecast, we had the route to ourselves. The chute above snow lake completely snow-free but a good path was found on the Left side of the creek. Intermittent snow cover in the basin, with consistent snow up to the saddle. The snow was still in shade and firm, though crampons were not needed. We climbed the "classic route" 5.6 to the summit, leading once and belaying each follower from the summit tree and throwing the rope down for the next person to tie in and climb. A 40m skinny rope, doubled over for the leader, just reaches the belay tree. From the saddle, the snow had softened enough to make a quick and easy descent.
