Trip Report

Thomas Mountain (winter)

Trip Date: Feb 6, 2016
Miles: ~10
Elevation gain: ~3500'

We parked 100 yards after turning onto Kachess dam road, this is the end of the plowed road. From there we snowshoed/hiked the road to the summer trailhead, and then snowshoed up the Silver Creek trail at 3600' to where the stream coming down from "Hansel & Gretel" lakes is. We were able to safely cross Silver Creek, and by staying north of the stream, we avoided the brush found at the lakes, and were able to stay completely out of avalanche terrain. Upon reaching the summit, we generally followed the summer trail back to the trailhead. 9 1/2 hours roundtrip.
