Thomas Mountain (winter)
A winter or early spring scramble of 10 miles and 4,000 ft of elevation gain near Easton and Kachess Lake.
Driving Instructions
Take Exit 70 off of I-90 (Easton), cross over the freeway and turn left (west) on the frontage road. After slightly more than ½ mile turn right onto the Kachess Dam Road and park where the snow begins.
approach & ascent
Follow the road past the power lines then turn right onto the road leading to the Silver Creek trailhead (not on the map). Where the Silver Creek trail starts to climb out of the flat, drop down to Silver Creek, cross it on a bridge and continue up the trail towards Easton Ridge. Turn left on reaching the road at ~2,700 ft, then pick up the trail again at the switchback. Turn left at the ridge top (~3,500 ft). Turn left, cross the saddle and find the slope ascending northeast to Point 4942; its easy to get diverted to the southeast in the trees at the saddle. At Point 4942 turn left (north), descend 250 feet to the saddle south of Thomas Mountain and ascend the ridge to the summit.
