The Tooth/South Face

tooth 5-23-2014

winter approach is still in, constant snow from parking lot.
at the pass, at the top of great scott bowl, where you pass from the east to the west, this year there is no cornice. maybe one did not develop? there is currently no moat issue. the route is essentially snow-free. some of our party used snowshoes on descent, some didn't, and one skied. skiing was very good. snowshoeing was slippery. some post-holing for the walkers, but not bad. i was hit in the head by a rock from the party that started right before us :<( - glad i had a helmet and even more glad, it did not hit me anyplace else and even more, more, glad i did not fall.
our party was faster than expected, so we opened up the tooth climbing gym and we did some top-roping off of the summit :>)
all in all, excellent conditions.

equipment: ice axe, helmet, rope and rock gear
equipment brought but not used: picket, crampons

ps - the mountaineers is an excellent organization, with outstanding personnel, but this new website is a disaster. i really think we as members should expect so much more!
