The Tooth/South Face

Sunday April 19, 2015. Took the winter route up the valley from Alpental. The snow was so patchy and soft as to slow progress considerably. (Took summer route upon return -- much faster.) Below Pineapple pass, snow extends all the way up to the pass, with no moat yet or difficulty in transition, but is quickly melting out and some holes developing. From Pineapple pass, south face is in fine shape, only a little bit of snow, including at the top just above the rappel station, but not enough to pose any danger. Took the catwalk - always thrilling. Beautiful day, saw two other parties on the route. ~9.5 hours RT.
