Trip Report

Teebone Ridge/Southwest Spur (winter)

Great workout and views of North Cascades with low to negligible avalanche hazard.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • In spite of rain at the start, surprisingly good weather on 2/27 gave us a very nice day to the standard turnaround point just under 6000'. Did not hit snow until clearing at 3300' with snowshoes used above that elevation (did not use crampons). Snow was surprisingly consolidated, more like late spring conditions.

In past trips we've battled our way through Krummholz trees on the south side of the ridge up to ~6100', but limited visibility made it less appealing for this trip. Cars to 'summit' took 4 hrs, half an hour for lunch, and a total trip time of 8 hours. Photo looking east from the 'top' can be seen here.
