Sun Top Lookout

was the first up the Suntop Road this morning after a few days of snow in the area.

The road to the snow park is plowed although the lot is not. The porta potty is very clean and stocked (thanks Forest Service or State Parks Dept!)

I broke trail about 4-1/2 miles up the road, but after 3-1/2 hours of the snow getting deeper, me beginning to wear out and hitting my turn around time, I stopped halfway up the second to last switchback.

On my way down I encountered a couple other parties on their way up in the afternoon. Slightly envious that they had it easy for the first 4-1/2 miles, the trail already compacted they were making much better time than I did.

Just a thought- I don't think the mileage on this route description here at the Mountaineers is correct. I turned around with still at least two kilometers remaining to the summit. That would put the route more around 6 miles one way.

I sailed back down to my vehicle in 1/2 the time, good thing too, as I beat the crowd back north to home along Hwy 410.
