We made a loop trip, by first heading up the valley between Cave Ridge and Snoqualmie, then running the ridge to East Snoqualmie. We then took Johnny Jean's 'magic ledge' across the backside of the rooster's comb to the summit. Returned via the regular (boring) route. Everyone on the trip strongly preferred the scenic approach route.
We only encountered one small snow patch (right before the entrance to the magic ledge) which we could avoid. Lots of blueberries. Love hiking at this time of year, when the blueberry bushes have turned red.
Glorious views from the summit: Rainier, Adams, Hood, Baker, Stewart, Glacier, and Olympus.
4 hours up, 1 hour at the summit, 3 hours down (with a lot of stops for blueberry picking).
