Seattle Snowshoe Winter Camping Field Trip - Grace Lakes

Roads better than forecast. Nice backpack up toward Grace Lakes. Nice weather Saturday, snow with little wind. Some wind, snow, and maybe rain in the night. We snowshoed to Grace lakes after setting up tents.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • We snowshoed from lot D through the Ski area, then up the side of the ski area.  We hit the trail head near the Mountaineers Lodge.  Cat track all the way.  Snow was hard and packed.

Parking at Lot "D" worked fine.  All cars  found a spot in or near overnight parking area. (Between the black poles).  Conflicting parking instructions.  All was fine.

Group arrived around 8am.  About 9am we backpacked though the Stevens Pass ski area and off twards Grace lakes.  Group decision to choose camp site. Considerations:  One student had never carried a heavy backpack.  So,we stayed lower than Grace lakes.  Much less wind there.

Everyone did a great job winter  camping.  Good gear, and most knew how to use it. One student was new to heavy backpack and show camping. She did a great job, learned a lot!    Very good group dynamics.  We all had a good time. Everyone learned and shared good ideas with the group.

Sunday we got up and packed up to get going.  We just headed for home.    We planned to rise at 7am, ready to go 9am.  Everyone was ready and on time! (ish)

All had fun and learned lots.
