Trip Report

Sea Kayak - Nisqually Delta & Reach

Great day with mild weather, mild wind, mild tide change. We had a nice group of seven with 1 paddler from Seattle and 1 from Everett.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The launch area does get crowded in the afternoon and the port-a-potty is on its last legs. There is a restroom available in the visitor center near the launch when it is open. Don't forget your Discover Pass.

There was nice wildlife viewing this day: cormorants, herons, bald eagles, seals, ducks, kingfishers, etc. It was a partly sunny mildly winded day with a becalmed time around and briefly after lunch. We hit the return to launch around 1430 which put the tide at 6.6 feet. I would not try to cross the tide  flats with a tide lower than that. 15-20 minutes after we landed mud was showing! Stay out past the black pilons and come in the powerboater channel whe the tide looks lower.
