Park Butte

Hiked to Park Butte lookout and returned on the Paul Scott Trail.

  • Tue, Aug 2, 2016
  • Day Hiking
  • Successful
  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Excellent conditions.  However, in the spring or early summer some of the water crossing could be difficult or impossible.

Trip was done on a Sunday.  Recommend doing this on a week day or Sunday.  We met lots and lots of backpackers coming out Sunday morning.  On the return we had fewer hikers on the Park Butte Trail and only one party of skiers on the Paul Scott Trail.

We hiked to Park Butte lookout first and returned on the Paul Scott Trail.  11.5 miles, 3,030' and 9 hours.  A great trip, however we didn't have enough time to enjoy the Paul Scott Trail.  Recommend doing this trail solo so you can enjoy this spectacular and lightly used trail.  It crossed several big lateral moraines  and goes through numerous parks.  Plus, there are good views of Mt. Baker and other mountains.  The downhill section of this trail is a very good grade and is mostly rock free.
