Sunday June 14: A delightful trip. One of the participants lives near Oso and invited the entire party to meet at his house Saturday evening, enjoy a salmon dinner cooked by his daughter (who is a professional chef) and sleep in the guest beds, so that we could have a leisurely start on Sunday morning and still be at the trailhead by 8 am. We had essentially no snow (a few places were the rapidly melting snow crossed the trail, none longer than 10 feet long, none deeper than 3 inches deep, all with a well trod path across). I love this trail for its variety of biotic zones, ranging from lush lowland forest to an alpine lake, boulder fields and talus slopes, the "vertical garden" below Stujack pass, the heather meadows above it, and the granite ledges near the summit. Glorious views from the summit. Round trip time nine and three quarter hours. I recommend stopping at the Oso General Store on the way home for their ice cream.
